Community Leader: Lorraine Puckett

English | 2'52 | 6.9 MB

In most ways, Lorraine Puckett is your typical, single mom in El Cajon CA. But as an emerging and strong voice for the concerns of parents in her community, she’s much more than typical.

Driven first by her own family needs, she volunteers on an El Cajon non-profit agency collaborative, as she helps to bridge the gap between policy-makers and parents. Lorraine is also a member of the First Five San Diego, Technical and Professional Advisory Committee. She works to connect what happens in house meetings to what happens at commission meetings.

As a parent of twin boys, one of them with special needs, Lorraine knows the pressures of coping with daily life. When working with parents she knows flexible meeting schedules are the key.

In addition to their concerns about school readiness, Lorraine and other local parents, in a forum facilitated by First Five San Diego and the Consensus Organizing Institute, brainstormed problems and possible solutions to many critical needs — from affordable childcare and health insurance, to safe environments for raising kids.
