Health Access Advocacy
Many county commissions support Children's Health Initiatives (CHIs) by funding insurance premiums, outreach and enrollment activities, and evaluation of the impact of these efforts on the health of young children. Other commissions do not have CHIs in their counties, but fund planning activities and other efforts to increase options for families to obtain needed health care for their children. Since health coverage is a major area of concern to policymakers at the state and federal level as well, some county commissions have become involved in advocating to expand access to Healthy Families, Medi-Cal, and other programs by writing editorials and letters.
