Breastfeeding
A Nutrition and Health Strategy
First 5 commissions in many counties are leading efforts to promote breastfeeding. Breastfeeding supports nutrition and oral health goals and has been shown by research to contribute to mother-baby bonding and combat post-partum depression. Commissions are working with birthing hospitals to increase the number of mothers who leave the hospital breastfeeding their newborns; working with local employers to adopt breastfeeding friendly policies; and engaging in a variety of community education efforts. Below are sample materials developed and used by county commissions in their effort to increase the rate and duration of breastfeeding.
