
Membership Information
The FIRST 5 Association of California consists of Executive Members and Associate Members:
Executive Members are the primary representatives from each of the County Commissions. Executive Members have the right to vote, hold office, and otherwise participate fully in all business of the Association.
Associate Members are individuals and organizations interested in the work of the Association who support the purposes of the Association. While Associate members cannot vote or hold office, they can participate in all Association business and contribute to the Association's mission. The Associate Membership Benefits and Application are below.
The FIRST 5 Association of California supports its members and constituents by serving five primary roles.
1. Providing a collective voice to speak on behalf of County Children and Families Commissions and staff. The Association conducts organized advocacy to promote an optimal system of early childhood health, development, and school readiness services.
2. Facilitating information sharing and communications. The Association offers a forum for members to share information and resources, conduct dialogue on strategies and policies, and provide each other with mutual support. Communications are enhanced through regular statewide meetings, teleconferences, and Internet-based tools for electronic dialogue and resource sharing.
3. Providing resources and assistance that promote effective implementation of the California Children and Families Act. The Association sponsors a broad array of training and technical support for the County Commissions and the community-based organizations in their counties.
4. Encouraging collaborative efforts aimed at meeting the needs of individual County Commissions and the membership as a whole. Collaboration is at the heart of the Association. This role is fulfilled in many ways, including:
5. Creating and sustaining a structure that supports achieving the mission. The Association maintains staff, raises funds, and conducts other various activities to ensure that it has the resources and infrastructure to be effective in carrying out its responsibilities.

- Promoting effective relationships and collaborative projects with state agencies, other associations, and advocacy groups involved in children and family services
- Providing organized participation by County Commissions in state-wide initiatives
