An Association of County Children and Families Commissions
Investing in Nutrition and Physical Activity For Children Birth to 5
2010 Updates: Funded Projects
The Community Foundation for Monterey County will offer nutrition education that includes “hands-on” and/or interactive demonstrations and educational approaches appropriate for a variety of learning styles about cooking and eating for children and parents.
2008: First 5 Monterey County is promoting changes in healthy eating through policy change. All organizations requesting funding for public events must abide by a nutrition policy that states that food offered at an event must include healthy options. The Commission also has a nutrition policy—healthy low-fat and low calorie food and beverages and fruits and vegetables – for all school readiness activities and events. Similar agreements are being developed with all funded partners. First 5 Monterey also collaborates with United Way’s Success by 6 and the Health Department’s Steps to a Healthier Salinas to share information and best practices with funded partners and community members.
